The news that we were shortlisted as finalists for not one, but two, awards at the Scottish Business Awards was warmly received by the whole team at McEwan Fraser Legal. We were contenders on the night for CEO of the Year and Employer of the Year, competing against some of Scotland most successful companies including Skyscanner, BrewDog and Barrhead Travel.
For Ken McEwan, CEO of McEwan Fraser Legal, the day started with a private charity lunch with Tom Hunter and Hollywood Legend, George Clooney, at Tigerlily Restaurant in Edinburgh. The delicious three-course meal was prepared by chefs from the charity, Social Bite, a local charity that provides food and employment for homeless people.
During the day a couple of the team attended the Festival of Entrepreneurship where Sir Chris Hoy was the main speaker. By all accounts Chris Hoy’s story was one of determination combined with a strong support network, it was motivating for all.
The award ceremony itself took place on Thursday 12th November at the Edinburgh EICC. The impressive venue was filled with over 2100 attendees, the largest dinner in Scottish history, something we very much enjoyed being part of. Our table was positioned right in front of the stage meaning we had front row seats for Oscar-winning actor, director and humanitarian, George Clooney who was the keynote speaker, as well as Sir Chris Hoy and Chris Evans.
This annual award gathers together Scottish businesses from every sector to celebrate and share individual successes – great opportunity to not only compete with Scotland’s best but also to networking with them! The event of course was all in aid of charity and a staggering £500,000 was raised for charities including the Social Bite Fund and human rights organisation Not on Our Watch.
Although we did not win either award on the night we are still incredibly proud to have been shortlisted, and what a fantastic night! We helped raise money for some great causes and we met one of Hollywood living legends! Congratulations to all the winners and we hope to see everyone next year.
