The Star Rock Shop was established in 1833 by David Ferguson. Originally a mason from Brechin, he changed direction, due to an accident which impaired his eyesight, and created the sweet 'Star Rock'. This unchanged recipe has been handed down the generations. During the war, men received boxes of Star Rock as a little reminder of home. In 1919, Queen Mary and her daughter stayed at Airlie Castle with the Dowager Countess and to their delight were presented with a gift of Star Rock. J. M. Barrie also had sweets delivered to his address in London.
The Star Rock Shop is a traditional old-fashioned sweet shop, one of the oldest in Scotland, and is part of Kirrie's heritage, well-known and loved by many. The shop's continued success is, in part, due to the sweets which are handmade on the premises, many are still made to the original recipes. The new owner would be taught and supported to carry those recipes forward. In addition to the handmade sweets the shop stocks a huge variety of quality confectionery. This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking for an established business, with low overheads, and a very strong potential for growth.
