Top 10 Tips On Spring Cleaning

Can’t believe it is spring already! Spring is traditionally a very busy time of year for estate agents in Scotland. It is considered to be a good time to put your property on the market as the garden is full of buds and blossom, and the sun is out for longer filling homes with natural light.

Spring is also a great time to give your property a thorough spring clean, inside and out. This can make a huge difference to a home and make it a more attractive place to live – especially important if you are thinking of selling.

Below we are going to share with you ten top tips to make sure your spring clean is as easy and enjoyable as possible:

  1. Planning ahead

Put your spring clean in your diary and try not to make any plans for the same time. Make a list of areas that need to be cleaned in each room and set enough time aside to work through everything on your list. Also make a list of all of the cleaning products you might need, this will save a lot of time running to the shop on the day for extra carpet cleaning solution!

  1. Always work from top to bottom

It’s important to start from the ceiling and work your way down. This will force dirt and dust downwards and keep you from having to re-dust or re-clean your space.

  1. Make your playlist

Make spring cleaning a little less boring by listening to music while cleaning, it will make time go by so much faster. Of course, you don’t have to make a playlist; you could always just tune into your favourite radio station.

  1. Get some help

You don’t have to tackle it alone! Get your kids to help, especially if they’re the ones making the mess. Or invite your friends round to help and tempt them by making coffee and cake.

  1. Inspirational ideas

Social media platforms like Instagram and Pinterest can provide fantastic inspiration ideas for de-cluttering, and offer great motivation to get you cleaning.

  1. Consider reorganising

Cleaning is a great way to reconsider where you want to keep everything. During the cleaning process, you might realise you’re not using the space in your home as efficiently as possible. Reorganising this will help give your house a new, spacious and updated look that will make the end result even more noticeable.

  1. Open Your Windows

There’s nothing like taking in a breath of fresh air and letting the sunshine in. As you’re cleaning, open the windows. You’ll be removing musty winter odours, protecting yourself from inhaling harsh fumes from cleaning products and the fresh air will keep you stay energized.

  1. Have a trash & charity box/bag ready

As you go through each room, make sure to declutter. Throw away old magazines from previous years. Be strict and put items you no longer use or need, like that book you bought 10 years ago but never read, in the charity box!

  1. Spring Cleaning Safety

If you suffer from allergies or are using heavy-duty cleaners, make sure to read the labels. For safe spring cleaning, wear rubber gloves, masks, scarves and even hairnets! Protective clothing will help guard against skin irritations and allergic reactions.

  1. Reward yourself!

Having something to look forward to at the end of a long day of cleaning will motive you and make things go a lot faster. Plus, you worked hard and deserve it, so treat yourself – have your family / friends over to appreciate the spotless house!
